Summer Weeklong Fleet Inquiry Institute July 13-17 and August 17-21, 2009

Here is what some of the teachers have to say about their experience at the weeklong Fleet Inquiry Institute held at the Science Center July 13-17, and August 17-21 2009:

“This new thinking will permeate all my teaching. It also validated things I’m already doing.

“Inspiring, career-changing; gets you to see your role as teacher very differently; helps you inspire/excite your students.”

“Amazing, energizing, a paradigm shift, necessary for all educators!!!!”

“It’s incredible. Very difficult to articulate the value but it makes you look at the same ideas in a whole new way.”

“My understanding of inquiry changed drastically. I misunderstood the concept of ‘hands-on’ and ‘inquiry’ thinking they were the same. I am much less intimidated by science, the inquiry process, and doing investigations.”

“Went from thinking that deep learning in science comes simply from ‘hands-on’ to the whole process of motivating learners to ask questions, plan investigable questions, investigations, then come to conclusions of learning. It surprised me that the time spent doing inquiry-style investigations led to the same content objectives that I probably would have spent the same [amount of] time “shoveling in” with a direct approach ([the inquiry process is] Still time efficient).”
